Can I sign up for a card even though I live out of state?

Answer

At the New Orleans Public Library, Library cards are free for all Orleans Parish residents as well as those who currently have a valid library card from Jefferson or St. Bernard parishes.

Non-residents can obtain a card for a cost of $100 annually. However, due to an unsustainable demand and the rising cost of e-books, we are no longer accepting applications for non-resident cards online. Non-residents must visit any NOPL branch in person to register for a library card. You can learn more about signing up for a Library card here: New to the Library
